My students and I went outside and did some planting for Earth Day. This was an amazing experience because my students were quick to learn how to use a shovel, hand hoe, and other gardening tools. They were so excited to be outside and digging in the dirt. For the most part, they self-initiated active engagement with the tools and the other adults that were working there. It was amazing for them to have this opportunity. When I told their parents, most of them were stunned. It seems that the children did not have prior knowledge or experiences from this one, and I am happy that there were able to learn and gain another life experience! Earth Day was a very memorable day for us all!
